How To Replace Lost Car Keys

For those who are lucky enough to be blessed with a good memory, or a highly organized mind, where they are incapable of misplacing anything, this should not be a problem. But for those of us who are in the habit of losing things, misplacing car keys, or totally losing them at times can be a problem. But do not despair, as these keys can be replaced with a little preparation.

First of all you will need proof of ownership. This would mean that you would need to prepare your license and vehicle’s registration. This is just a safety precaution to ensure that you are having your keys replaced because you just lost them, not because you hot wired your vehicle.

Next, you will have to contact a locksmith. He will ask you about the make and model of your vehicle. He will inform you if he will be able to replace that particular car key. If he can do it, then it is done, you have nothing more to worry about.

However, if your car uses the type of key that cannot be easily replaced, you may be forced to purchase a new car key from your dealer. Call your dealer and inform them that you would like to purchase a new car key from them.

For the newer high tech cars, even the dealer is sometimes incapable of replacing your car keys. This would then mean that you would have to contact the manufacturer of your car directly for replacement. So if you would like to avoid the trouble of these situations, then try your best not to lose your car keys in the first place.
